Gaza

Recently I've started thinking about this again. I wrote an article on the Arab-Israeli Conflict, and it's stayed in my mind. I want to help. I realise that at the moment I'm not old enough but soon, hopefully, I'd be able to sign up for an NGO and help out. The Irish people who tried to sail that boat through the blockade are a real inspiration; I want to help the people in Gaza as much as possible, and I'll try my hardest to find people who will accpet me and allow me to work with them. I'd encourage everyone who's reading this to think on this issue. I can't tell you or anybody else to do anything, but I can show my side of the argument and let you choose. Everything you do, is your choice. :)

Wikileaks

So, Pfc. Bradley Manning is on trial at the moment. I didn't know a lot about this, I'll admit, but I saw the debate on Sky news last night, where Ambassador Bolton defended America's conduct in relation to the handling of the case. Now, as far as the treatment of Manning was described, not by the Ambassador, might I add, he was kept in a tiny cell, was woken during the night and has been held without trial for 15 months. One of the documents he was meant to have leaked was a video of an American warship firing on an apparently unarmed ship. Also, as reported by an American paper, he spends 23 hours a day in his cell, is allowed only one hour of excercise, has only periodic television and visiting privileges and access to reading material, but has to take his meals alone and isn't allowed contact with the other prisoners. He can only communicate with them by shouting through the bars. He was classed as a 'suicide risk' for three days in January, and so was locked in his cell for the whole day, stripped to his underwear, and his glasses were taken off him. For the first week of March, he was forced to sleep naked, with only a blanket. Apparently, these were imposed after run-ins with the brig personnel, so a theory has been put forward that he was being punished for 'mouthing-off' to the guards. This seems to be ridiculous. America would've had a moral high ground, at least the majority of people would've agreed with the trial and with their view of it, but after so many human rights violations? A phrase about shooting yourself in your own foot comes to mind. Honestly, the country was already under attack for, well, attacking others without a whole lot of reasons, but to treat one of their own citizens like this, and to profess to be a leader in democracy. I don't think that all of America and all of its inhabitants are awful, obviously. I just don't see the sense in America's treatment of Manning.

BPD

I don't know which things are BPD and which aren't, but the main stuff seems to be the fact that I feel empty a lot, or at least try to, because if I dig down or think about myself I feel bad. Really bad. Depressed bad. I can't take it. For about three years I wanted to commit suicide, and secretly made small cuts in my wrists with a sharp art scraper thingy and, on one occasion, a fish knife when my parents were out. I never feel like I fit in, and my self-esteem fluctuates a lot. It got so bad that I just wanted to see if anyone noticed, and I got the scraper thing and went at the artery in my neck. I couldn't cut with it though, so I was just scraping the skin away. I'd done it because it was too painful to cut my wrists, and I came up with the idea that my neck would be less sensitive. I went at it for maybe 5-10 minutes, methodically scraping and wiping my neck and the blade if they were getting too bloody and I couldn't see the original cut. Then, I felt like something stopped me. Enter my religious conversion, but that's kind of beside the point. I didn't tell anyone for ages, and to my, I don't know, sadness maybe, my family and friends believed me when I said I'd gotten the cut while paintballing. That hurt me more than anything, it took people a few days to notice it at all, and then they forgot about it. I had to tell my friend, eventually. She was supportive, as always, and was the subject for quite a few of my poems around that time. I feel that I owe her my life. Without her, I would've done it again, and probably succeeded, but now I have something to keep me grounded. I still get the thoughts, and the depression, but know I think that I can handle it. It was a rough year. Within one year I was suicidal, Christian and I came out as bi. My friends all know now, and I've tried to teach them that suicide isn't something that dumb people do, it's something that you do when you feel that you have no choice, and you are so low that you don't think that anyone would notice. These are my experiences. I was thought to be attention-seeking, by some people very close to me, and that hurt more than anything else, but really, you have to rely on your friends. That's why I want to get a tattoo designed by my friends when I'm older, because "Friends are the family we choose for ourselves". Thanks.

Question 1:

I've had stuff nicked (stolen) off me before, so for the past year I've been wondering why. A lot of people must be in desperate situations to be driven to stealing stuff, but sometimes it's just opportunistic. Stuff is left around by absent-minded people who don't think that anything bad will happen. As dumb as it sounds, doesn't it sound worse in your head to think of someone just coming across the stuff and thinking "Here, I'm havin' that"? If anyone reading this has ever felt that impulse or has actually taken anything please just think about it and don't do it again! I know I sound all annoying and like I have a massive superiority complex, but I'm just trying to get across how awful it made me feel when soemeone stole my stuff. It really wrecks the way you think of everything. Please just think about it!! :)

BPD

I've taken about four different online tests for Borderline Personality Disorder and they've all told me that I have it; and the last one said I had a 'severe' version of it. :P I really, really hope that these quizzes are completely inaccurate! :D if not, well, that'll be interesting, to say the least...still, it seems that no-one's quite 'normal', whatever that is. :P it turns out my friend scored high in the narcissism (apologies for spelling), OCD and anti-social sections of another test. :D

School

I just spent eighty minutes sitting next to a guy who wasn't sure if he'd ever heard of Robert Frost. To put this in context, a) most people in our school have studied Robert Frost for the Junior Cert and b) we ourselves had actually studied him. He's quite well-known as a poet anyway, isn't he? The guy's nice, and all, but I was surprised. I think education's kinda gone down the drain in recent years. More people are into things like blogging, tchah! Wait a second...... :P

I've made it so anyone can comment on it, so I'd like to get some feedback people! It's a bit strange sending out these messages with nothing coming back. I'm not asking for Shakespeare or Yeats (definitely not Yeats, bad experience with his poetry :P) but a line or two would be nice. or a letter. Just a simple '.' even. Come on, I'm begging you, just something! :P

Parties and Drinking

What is it with a lot of people my age and drink? Going to a party now most people get drunk, or are already drunk when they arrive, and it's so awkward trying to talk to someone who just laughs, falls over and forgets where they are. Can't people look at others like this, or even after just getting drunk once stop it? It's really not fun. I've seen enough people regret everything that's happened, and I've seen people try to take advantage of drunk girls. Honestly, if anybody reading this has been that drunk that they've done something that they don't think they should have, is it honestly worth it?

The horses are amazing, so why didn't they just scrap the other pets and concentrate on them? Do more of a Ranch pack and really get into it! They make you money, look adorable and, here's the main point, they can actually do stuff. They jump and race, and they're adorable! Every Sim I've made since I've got the game has a horse. Or five. :) Anyway, just a tip for the people at EA. Make something useful, and people will go ape for it. :)

Gaddafi

Libya is finally free, with Gaddafi's death. The images and videos shown were distressing, made more so by the celebrations going on around his dead body. Death was enough, wasn't it? I don't think I have the right to say he deserved it, even though it may be how I feel. I wish we had an ideal society, where criminals were arrested, charged and punished. Now, all that's happened is that more blood has been shed. Sorrow upon sorrow. It's not a proud chapter in Libya's history; no death is justified. Then, to drag his body through the streets, cheering? I understand it, but it sickens me slightly. The families of his victims deserved to see him be punished by the law of their free, proud country. This is not justice, but I hope that Libya can make a new start, and a better world for themselves. I won't put a picture of Gaddafi's body up; it's too bad to be accessible to all age groups.

TY Trip #3

Kayaking! (again not me, but you get the gist!)
So, it came to Wednesday, and waking up sore from a céilí (dance), paddling and walking, I was wrecked. That was when we were told we were going to go kayaking. In the wind. And rain. Yay. :P anyway, we got up and changed into wetsuits, lifejackets and helmets. We got our kayaks and pushed ourselves out into the water. After a while we were allowed to beach the boats and go for a swim, and as we were already soaked we all jumped in! I stayed out swimming with one of my friends while the boats were being stored. Joy of joys, by the time we got out of the lake, the hot water had all been used in the showers. In fact, all the water had been used. Cut to a five hour bus journey home smelling like a lake. Good times! :) seriously though, I would recommend Dunlewey and Gartan to anyone looking for a fun holiday, as long as they don't mind getting dirty. :P

TY Trip #2

Lough Gartan (not taken by me! These are all photos off the internet!)
So, on Monday, after a 5 hour journey, we got off a bus and I was one of the lucky few who got to go on the EXTREMELY muddy assault course. After watching a guy pick his shoes out of the knee-deep mud and run off in his socks, I was apprehensive. True to form, I fell at every single thing, leaving me up to my neck in mud. Even my hockey coach was laughing at me at that point, but then we got to go back and set sail on a lake in our own rafts. Being team captain, I was first on. We came last. Enough said on that one! :) we got to jump in the lake so it turned out fun in the end, even though we lost every challenge that day!

Glenveagh Castle

I've just recently been on a culture/muddy trip and I have to admit it was interesting! The culture side, that is. Falling face-first in mud that smelt like horse dung was not so enjoyable. I'm a nerdy sort of person so the history side appeals to me more. Also, one of the guys who rented Glenveagh Castle (where I was) disappeared mysteriously off a nearby island. The Sherlock in me was intrigued :) so I've decided to find out more about this guy. Over the next while you might be reading a bit about him. Hopefully you won't find it boring! Anyway, that part was only on Tuesday. The muddy bit came on Monday...

Introduction

I'm a dabbler, it must be said. I can be kind of random at times but I'll try not to confuse people! I want it to be interesting and to show people what's out there. Some things will be normal but some should be just plain weird. I'm also very opinionated but I'll tone it down somewhat for this. I never mean to be offensive so if I am I'm sorry it's completely accidental! Just bear with me for a bit, I'll get used to it. :) Thanks!
